Additional information

Cambay's coinage authority in the early twentieth century was already an anachronism — the state's commercial importance had collapsed centuries earlier as its harbor silted up, stranding what had once been one of Gujarat's premier trading ports. Jafar Ali Khan ruled under close British paramountcy, and these small copper issues circulated in a territory so economically marginal that the Bombay Presidency largely absorbed its practical monetary functions. The Y#6 paisa series ran nearly a decade without design revision.
