Islam Shah Suri, who seized the throne from his own family after the death of Sher Shah in 1545, maintained the extensive mint network his father had built across the subcontinent. Shahgarh — a fortress town in present-day Madhya Pradesh — operated as a regional mint during his reign, producing copper coinage for local circulation in central India. Issues from smaller provincial Sur mints are considerably harder to attribute with confidence than those from the major centers, and survivorship from Shahgarh is thin.
