Amanullah Khan issued this coin immediately after declaring Afghan independence following the Third Anglo-Afghan War of 1919 — a conflict that lasted less than a month but ended British control over Afghan foreign policy. The Rawalpindi Treaty, signed that same year, forced Britain to relinquish that control for the first time since 1879. This paisa belongs to the very first coinage struck under a fully sovereign Afghan authority.
