1 Pahlavī - Mohammad Rezā Pahlavī 'Aryamehr'

The "Aryamehr" title — meaning Light of the Aryans — was formally added to Mohammad Reza Shah's official styling in 1965, a piece of dynastic self-aggrandizement that grew increasingly hollow as the 1970s progressed. These late Pahlavi gold coins were struck as the monarchy's grip visibly weakened; the final dates in this series coincide almost exactly with the revolutionary unrest that forced the Shah's departure in January 1979.

Gold coin production effectively ceased before the Islamic Republic was formally proclaimed in April of that year, making the 1979-dated strikes among the last acts of an imperial mint.
