Reverse description The reverse displays the legend TRAVANCORE arching across the upper field in Roman capital letters, with the date 1877 inscribed below. At centre, the royal cypher R.V. (for Rama Varma) appears in large Roman letters, flanked by two crossed olive or laurel branches. Below the cypher, a Malayalam inscription occupies the lower-central field, with additional Malayalam characters arranged in a circular legend around the periphery. The whole design is enclosed within a beaded border, imparting a formal regal character consistent with the coinage conventions of princely-state Travancore.
