Ramadeva ruled the Yadava kingdom of Devagiri during one of the most turbulent periods on the subcontinent — his reign ended when Alauddin Khalji's forces sacked Devagiri a second time in 1308, reducing the kingdom to a tributary state. He was eventually executed by Malik Kafur in 1311, the same year this issue's production ceased. The padmatanka denomination itself is a distinctly Deccan gold type, unrelated to northern Indian coinage traditions and rooted in local dynastic practice predating the Delhi Sultanate's southern campaigns.
