| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a finely detailed engraving of the historic sailing ship Concorde, shown under full sail and rendered with meticulous rigging detail occupying the right and centre of the field. To the left, the denomination 1 PA'ANGA is inscribed in two lines, accompanied by a small ship's wheel device below. The name CONCORDE is inscribed vertically along the upper right rim in bold Latin lettering. The composition conveys a strong sense of maritime movement, with the vessel's hull riding stylised waves along the lower field. |

Issued to mark the 30th anniversary of Concorde's first flight, this is one of dozens of commemorative programs Tonga ran through the 1990s under arrangements with foreign coin marketing firms — a revenue strategy that produced issues with essentially no domestic circulation and limited connection to Tongan economic life. The underlying Concorde program was licensed across multiple issuing nations simultaneously, making this one of several near-identical pieces sharing the same reverse die family.
Air France retired its Concorde fleet in June 2003, British Airways in October the same year, following the July 2000 crash of Flight 4590 at Paris Charles de Gaulle.
