Obverse description A caparisoned elephant advancing to the right occupies the lower half of the field, rendered in a stylized manner with decorative trappings visible along its back. Mounted above the elephant is a rectangular cartouche bearing the Arabic letter 'Ba' (ب), representing the regnal initial of Tipu Sultan. A crescent moon symbol appears to the left of the elephant in the field. Small circular pellets are also present in the field, serving as additional decorative elements characteristic of Mysore coinage of this period.
