Obverse description St. Mark standing facing left beside a central altar upon which he rests an upright Gospel book; at his left stands a lion, symbolic of his evangelist attribute. The Doge kneels in supplication at right, receiving the blessing of the saint. Rays of divine light descend from above into the field. The mintmaster's initials appear in the exergue below the ground line. The legend is inscribed along the upper and lower periphery in Latin characters.
