To his right stands the kneeling Doge Nicolò da Ponte in ducal robes, presenting himself in a gesture of supplication; behind the Doge stands the winged Lion of Saint Mark holding a standard surmounted by a cross. The date 1581 appears in the lower exergual area. The circular legend reads S·M·VENETVS·NIC·DEPONTE·D, identifying the patron saint and the ruling Doge. |
