| Obverse description | A large, full-faced winged Lion of St. Mark occupies the central field, depicted in high relief with an elaborate mane, spread wings, and a crowned head facing the viewer directly. The lion holds a book beneath its forepaw and displays a prominent tail curling to the right. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the circular legend reading S·MARCVS VENETVS· interrupted at the base by the mintmaster's initials M·A·B, set within a cartouche in the exergue. The rendering is bold and emblematic, consistent with the ceremonial artistic tradition of Venetian oselle coinage. |
