Flanking the sword on both sides are elaborate symmetrical foliate scrolls and acanthus-like ornamental branches in high relief, filling the field in a rich Baroque decorative style. The Latin motto ICTV NON ABSTINET, meaning 'it does not withhold the blow,' is inscribed around the field, referencing Morosini's celebrated martial prowess as the conqueror of the Peloponnese. |
