| 裏面の説明 | The reverse displays a five-line Latin inscription centrally arranged within an elaborate wreath of laurel or oak leaves tied at the base with a decorative bow, reading FRANCIS· / LAVREDANI / PRINCIPIS / MVNVS / AN·VII·1758, commemorating this as the gift of Doge Francesco Loredan in the seventh year of his reign, 1758. A small heraldic device or ornament crowns the top of the wreath. The border is formed by a continuous beaded or rope-pattern rim, consistent with the medallic production of the Venetian Mint. |

The osella was Venice's annual New Year's gift coin, distributed by the Doge to members of the Maggior Consiglio in place of the wild birds (uccelli, corrupted to oselle) once handed out from the ducal hunting grounds on the Lido. Francesco Loredan, elected Doge in 1752, issued one of these pieces each January of his reign, making his run among the longer sequences of the eighteenth century — he held office until his death in 1762.
CNI VIII#109 places this firmly within the Venetian municipal series rather than the regal coinage, a distinction that matters for collectors organizing by issuing authority.
