Obverse description The winged Lion of St. Mark seated facing, rendered in high relief with spread wings and a prominent mane, resting its right forepaw upon an open gospel book; the lion wears a ducal crown and is depicted with a serene, majestic expression. The surrounding legend S·MARCUS VENETUS is positioned along the periphery, separated by small ornamental stops. A fine milled border frames the entire design.
