Obverse description Central field displays the crowned arms of East Friesland within a round or oval shield, flanked by the abbreviated joint titles of the two ruling counts, Edzard II and John. The heraldic device occupies the majority of the flan, with the surrounding legend arranged in a circular band along the coin's periphery. The inscription, rendered in Latin abbreviation, identifies the issuers as Counts and Lords of East Frisia. The striking is characteristic of mid-16th century hammered billon coinage, with some weakness and irregularity typical of the period.
