| Beschrijving keerzijde | A draped female figure, representing the Virgin or an allegorical personification of Holland, is depicted seated upon a bench or throne at center, set within a stylized garden landscape filled with conifer trees arranged symmetrically in the field. Her right arm is raised upward toward a radiant sun emitting rays from the upper field, while her left arm rests across her lap. The scene is enclosed by a beaded inner border, around which the Latin pious legend * AVX * NOS * IN * NOM * DOM * runs continuously, invoking divine protection. The composition reflects the devotional iconographic tradition common to Spanish Netherlands coinage of the late sixteenth century. |
