Reverse description The quartered royal shield of Philip II, incorporating the arms of Castile, León, Aragon, and the County of Flanders, occupies the central field. The shield is surmounted by an imperial crown of elaborate form. The Latin legend PACE ET IVSTITIA (Peace and Justice) runs around the periphery of the coin. The execution is characteristic of the rough, utilitarian style of hammered copper oords produced by the States in revolt during the late 1570s. The flan shows the irregular outline and edge flaws common to this issue.
