| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bears the crowned initial 'M' (for Queen Maria II of Portugal) in relief, positioned in the upper centre of the roughly rectangular flan. Directly below the royal monogram, the date '1843' is struck in cursive numerals. Two rosette or star punches appear in diagonally opposite corners of the flan, serving as authenticating countermarks typical of Portuguese colonial currency of this period.
