The Philippine octavo issues of Ferdinand VII were struck not in Manila but in Mexico City, a colonial logistical arrangement that persisted well into the nineteenth century. Ferdinand himself never governed effectively — his reign was fractured by the Napoleonic occupation of Spain, two forced abdications, and the nearly simultaneous collapse of Spanish authority across Latin America, which was already severing the very supply chains that produced these coins.
KM#8 copper pieces from this decade are frequently found with uneven planchet surfaces, a known consequence of inconsistent copper sourcing during the period's political disruptions.
