| Additional information |
Albert of Mecklenburg claimed the Swedish throne in 1364 after a faction of disaffected Swedish magnates invited him to displace Magnus Eriksson, who had ruled for decades before his position became untenable. The Kalmar mint operated under this contested royal authority, producing small silver issues throughout a reign that grew increasingly unstable as noble opposition mounted. Albert was ultimately captured at the Battle of Åsle in 1389 by forces loyal to Margaret I of Denmark, ending both his kingship and, effectively, this coinage.
