Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the Sociedad Numismática del Perú, founded in 1926 as the country's principal organization for coin collecting and numismatic scholarship. The BCR has used the 1 Nuevo Sol denomination repeatedly as a vehicle for commemorative silver issues since Peru's currency reform of 1991, which replaced the collapsing Inti at a rate of one million to one — a denomination reset that itself became a subject of numismatic study.
