1 Nuevo Sol Peruvian Congress

Issued to mark the centenary of the Peruvian Congress building in Lima, completed in 1906 after decades of interrupted construction following the devastation of the War of the Pacific. Peru lost its congressional records, treasury archives, and much of its institutional infrastructure when Chilean forces occupied Lima from 1881 to 1884 — rebuilding the physical seat of government was, for a generation of Peruvians, inseparable from rebuilding the republic itself.

Part of a broader commemorative silver program the BCRP sustained through the 1990s and 2000s, these issues were struck in limited quantities primarily for collector distribution rather than circulation.
