Additional information

Huaca de la Luna — Temple of the Moon — is a Moche ceremonial complex on Peru's northern coast active from roughly 100 to 800 AD, predating the Inca by centuries. This coin is part of the BCR's long-running "Riqueza y Orgullo del Perú" circulation commemorative program, which has issued dozens of regional and archaeological subjects since 2010, each in standard production runs intended for everyday use.

Ongoing excavations at Huaca de la Luna, led by archaeologist Santiago Uceda from the 1990s until his death in 2019, progressively revealed layers of superimposed temples built atop one another across centuries.
