Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala completed his extraordinary 1,189-page illustrated letter to Philip III of Spain around 1615, documenting Andean life and cataloging the abuses of the colonial administration in exhaustive detail. The manuscript never reached the king. It was rediscovered in the Royal Danish Library in Copenhagen in 1908, having apparently never left Europe after its composition.
This issue marks the 400th anniversary of that work.
