The Estela de Raimondi is a massive carved stone stela discovered in the Ancash region and acquired in 1874 by Italian naturalist Antonio Raimondi, after whom it is named. It had reportedly spent years serving as a tabletop in a peasant's hut before its significance was recognized. The monument is now attributed to the Chavín culture, dating to roughly 900–200 BC, and is held at the Museo Nacional de Arqueología in Lima.
Peru's commemorative circulation coin program of this period rotated through pre-Columbian artifacts systematically. KM#342 is part of that series, sharing its specification with several concurrent issues.
