| Descrição do reverso | Within a double decorative border composed of an outer band of large pellets and an inner segmented ring, the central field presents a stylised rendition of the Lord of Sipán (Señor de Sipán), the celebrated Moche warrior-priest ruler whose tomb was discovered at Huaca Rajada in 1987. The central figure is shown frontally, adorned with an elaborate crescent headdress, large circular ear ornaments, a beaded pectoral, and holding a sceptre and a circular shield, flanked on each side by a similarly attired attendant figure. The design draws directly from the funerary regalia and iconographic tradition of the Moche culture, rendered in high relief. The legend SEÑOR DE SIPÁN is inscribed within the lower portion of the inner ring border. |

The Lord of Sipán, buried around 300 AD in the Lambayeque Valley, was excavated by Walter Alva beginning in 1987 — the first intact royal Moche tomb ever found, and one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in the Western Hemisphere. Peru moved quickly to capitalize on the find's international profile, and this gold issue followed within a few years of the tomb's contents reaching wide publication.
Struck in 22-karat gold at a weight placing it firmly in collector rather than circulation territory, the coin was part of the BCR's broader numismatic program commemorating pre-Columbian cultures. The Moche series drew particular attention given that the actual burial artifacts — including gold ear ornaments and a crescent headdress — had already become globally recognized.
