Obverse description The obverse features the Peruvian national coat of arms at center, depicting a quartered shield with a vicuña in the upper left canton, a cinchona tree in the upper right canton, and a cornucopia in the lower half, flanked on either side by sprigs of palm and laurel tied at the base. The circular legend BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERÚ runs along the upper periphery, with the date of issue inscribed in the lower field. The design is rendered in high relief against a flat field, with the coin's heptagonal-edged flan giving the piece a distinctive profile.

Reverse description The reverse displays the denomination UN NUEVO SOL in bold relief within a stylized rectangular panel set at a slight perspective angle, evoking the form of a banknote or shield. To the left of the panel, a spray of native Peruvian flora rises in relief. To the right, the monogram of the Lima Mint appears. Braille dots representing the denomination are incused above the central panel near the upper field. A decorative geometric border of repeating triangular and dot motifs runs along the upper and lower rim, referencing pre-Columbian textile patterns.
