| Obverse description | Facing bust of José Artigas, the national hero of Uruguay, rendered in high relief at the centre of the dodecagonal field, depicted in early 19th-century military dress with a cravat and lapelled coat. The legend URUGUAY is inscribed along the left periphery and ARTIGAS along the right, both reading upward from the base. The date 1976 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the portrait. A small mint mark is visible to the lower left of the bust. |
