Aanvullende informatie

Uruguay's 1976 military government commissioned a series of pattern coins as part of a currency rationalization effort that would eventually replace the old peso at a rate of 1,000 to one — though the full transition to the nuevo peso system wasn't completed in circulation until 1980. Patterns from this period were struck in multiple compositional variants as the authorities evaluated production costs and durability, which explains the nickel silver alloy here rather than the cupro-nickel used for circulation strikes.
