Uruguay's 1976 military government oversaw extensive monetary retooling as part of broader economic restructuring following the coup of June 1973. Pattern issues from this period were struck to test proposed denominations and alloys before final authorization — this aluminium piece apparently never advanced to circulation, as the eventually adopted nuevo peso coinage used different specifications entirely.
