Obverse description The king, crowned and in armour, stands facing in a large warship, holding a sword in his right hand and a shield of the royal arms of England (quarterly France ancient and England) in his left. The ship's hull is rendered with elaborate rigging, a forecastle, and sterncastle, with waves depicted beneath. A lion figurehead appears at the stern, and the hull is adorned with shields. A continuous Gothic legend in uncial script runs around the periphery within a beaded border.
