Obverse description The obverse depicts the king standing full-length within a large warship, facing forward and wearing a crown, holding a sword upright in his right hand and a quartered shield of England and France in his left. The ship's hull is rendered with detailed clinker-built planking and a forecastle visible to either side of the royal figure. Waves are indicated beneath the vessel in stylised form. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, with the legend in Gothic uncial characters running between the inner and outer beaded borders. The letter H, the king's initial, appears on the side of the ship as a mintmark typical of the Class B issue.
