Reverse description The reverse displays a large ornate cross fleury at the centre, with a central raised boss or panel, dividing the field into four quarters. Each quarter contains a crowned lion passant guardant, rendered in high relief in the Gothic style typical of the heavy coinage. The quadrilateral design is set within a cusped and tressured quatrefoil frame formed by four fleurs-de-lis and four crowned lions alternating around the central cross. The peripheral Latin legend in Gothic script surrounds the entire design within a beaded border, carrying the scriptural passage from Luke 4:30.
