Obverse description The obverse depicts the king standing erect within a large sailing vessel, shown in full armour and crowned, holding a drawn sword in his right hand and a quartered shield of arms of England and France in his left. The ship's hull is rendered with fine detail including planking, rigging, and a decorated castle at bow and stern. A flag or streamer flies from the mast above. The surrounding legend in Gothic lettering reads HENRIC DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC DNS HI Z AQ, enclosed within a beaded inner border and an elaborately cusped and tressured outer border.
