| Reverse description | An elaborate foliage-and-cross design centred on a cross fleury (floriated cross) with a lion passant guardant in each angle, the whole set within a quatrefoil of arched panels, each containing a crowned leopard or fleur-de-lis alternately, referencing Edward III's dual claim to England and France. At the centre of the cross a small shield is placed. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the reverse legend in Gothic uncial lettering occupying the space between the inner and outer beaded borders. A cross potent mintmark, identifying the transitional treaty period issue of the Tower Mint, appears at the commencement of the legend. |
