| Beschrijving keerzijde | A large floriated cross occupies the field, with fleur-de-lis ornaments at each terminal, dividing the coin into four compartments each containing a lion passant and a crown in alternating arrangement. At the centre of the cross is a large letter 'E' with a pellet at its centre. Stops between legend words consist of saltires and double saltires, characteristic of the post-treaty period. The surrounding legend in Latin uncial script carries the Vulgate passage from Luke 4:30 describing Christ passing through the midst of the crowd, a common protective formula on English medieval gold coinage. |
