The Noble was introduced by the Isle of Man in 1983 as a bullion series, deliberately trading on the island's Norse-derived name — "Mann" itself rooted in early medieval Scandinavian settlement. The longboat motif has anchored every iteration since, making this one of the longer-running consistent reverse designs in modern bullion coinage. Charles III's accession in September 2022 triggered a full redesign cycle across all Commonwealth issues, with the Isle of Man's transition appearing across its bullion program through 2023–24.
