| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a medieval illuminated manuscript scene adapted from the Golden Haggadah of Barcelona (c. 1320), showing Miriam and four women in long flowing robes rendered in fine engraved line work against a highly polished field. The central figure holds a decorated box or casket, while the flanking figures carry a timbrel and other objects, evoking the biblical scene of Miriam leading the women in song after the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20). Decorative foliate scroll borders frame the composition on the left and right sides. The figures are rendered in a Gothic-Sephardic manuscript style, faithfully reproducing the artistic character of the original illumination. The legend ISRAEL / ישראל / اسرائيل appears in the lower field. |
