Issued as part of Israel's long-running Biblical Art series, this coin commemorates the Book of Jonah — one of the few prophetic texts read in its entirety during the Yom Kippur liturgy, specifically at the Mincha service. The choice of subject carries deliberate theological weight: Jonah's three days inside the fish became, in early Christian and Jewish interpretive tradition alike, one of the most debated passages in the Hebrew Bible regarding prophecy, repentance, and divine mercy.
The .925 silver pieces in this series are struck to proof standard at the Israel Coins and Medals Corporation, which has handled commemorative production on behalf of the Bank of Israel since 1961.
