Beschrijving voorzijde At center, a dynamic figure of a football player leaping to strike a ball, rendered in high relief against a plain field, evoking athletic energy and movement. The State Emblem of Israel — a menorah flanked by olive branches — appears prominently, accompanied by the trilingual legend 'ISRAEL / ישראל / إسرائيل' in Latin, Hebrew, and Arabic scripts. The face value '1 שקל חדש / 1 NEW SHEQEL' is inscribed, along with the year date '2009' and its Hebrew calendar equivalent 'התשס״ט'. A border inscription in Hebrew and Arabic reads 'גביע העולם בכדורגל / كأس العالم كرة القدم' (World Cup in Soccer), encircling the central design, with the mint mark 'מ' also present.

Aanvullende informatie

Israel has issued commemorative coins for FIFA World Cups since at least the 1990s, a somewhat curious tradition given the country's complicated relationship with continental football federations — Israel competes in UEFA, not AFC, after being expelled from Asian competition in 1974 following political pressure from Arab member states. The 2010 South Africa tournament was the first World Cup held on African soil, a bid that FIFA awarded in 2004 over competing proposals from Morocco and Egypt.

KM#459 was struck at the Israel Mint in Jerusalem.
