Obverse description The obverse is divided into two contrasting halves: the left half features a matte, frosted field bearing the State of Israel coat of arms — a menorah flanked by olive branches above a shield — along with a stylised olive branch motif in the lower left; the right half displays a mirror-polished field with the large numeral '1' in bold relief at centre. Below the numeral appears the denomination legend in Hebrew (שקל חדש) and Latin (NEW SHEQEL), separated by a small Star of David mint mark. The upper border carries the country name in Hebrew (ישראל) and Latin (ISRAEL) and, continuing to the right, in Arabic (اسرائيל); the lower border bears the Gregorian year 1999 and the Hebrew year התשנ״ט, separated by dots.
