| Obverse description | A stylized lily (Lilium candidum), the national flower of Israel, rendered in bold relief occupies the center of the field, its slender stem rising to three arching leaves and a central elongated bud. To the lower left, the denomination numeral '1' is depicted in ancient Phoenician script characters. To the right of the lily, a small shield bearing the State of Israel coat of arms — featuring a menorah flanked by olive branches — appears in the field, accompanied by a small circular mint mark below it. |

The New Shekel series was introduced in 1985 to replace the hyperinflated old Shekel at a rate of 1,000 to one — one of several currency resets Israel had undertaken since independence. The nickel-plated steel composition on this denomination replaced an earlier aluminum-bronze version as part of a broader modernization of the circulating series.
