Jersey's decimalization on 15 February 1971 — "Decimal Day" — aligned the island with the United Kingdom's switch, though Jersey issued its own distinct coinage rather than adopting British coins outright, a reflection of its status as a Crown dependency outside the UK proper. The bronze composition was abandoned after 1980 in favor of steel as copper prices rose.
