Beschrijving keerzijde A female agricultural worker is depicted standing behind a hand-operated mechanical tractor, ploughing a field to the right, with a mountainous landscape rendered in low relief in the background. The scene conveys the FAO's agricultural development theme and is executed in a realistic, illustrative style typical of mid-20th century commemorative coinage. The denomination legend in Chinese characters appears prominently in the lower portion of the field below the central scene. A continuous beaded border frames the design.

Aanvullende informatie

The Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, launched by the United Nations in the late 1960s, recruited issuing authorities worldwide to mint specially designated pieces promoting agricultural development goals. Taiwan's participation in 1969 placed it in politically awkward company — the FAO recognized the People's Republic rather than the Republic of China, yet the Central Bank of China issued this piece regardless, a quiet assertion of legitimacy through multilateral engagement.
