| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse follows the classical East Asian cash coin format, centering on a square perforation surrounded by a raised inner rim. Four Chinese characters are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole: 常 (Sang) at the top, 通 (Tong) to the right, 寶 (Bo) to the left, and 平 (Pyong) at the bottom, together reading 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), meaning 'Ever-Constant Circulating Treasure.' The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) with bold, well-defined strokes typical of Joseon-period cast coinage. The flat field between the inner and outer rims is plain, and the broad outer rim frames the design with a slightly rounded edge profile. |
