| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised rim. The four-character inscription 常平通寶 (Sangpyong T'ongbo) is arranged radially around the central hole, reading top to bottom and right to left in traditional Chinese regular script. 常平 (Sangpyong), referring to the Joseon dynasty's Ever-Normal Treasury (Sangpyong-cheong), appears at the top and bottom positions, while 通寶 (T'ongbo), meaning 'circulating currency', appears at the right and left positions respectively. The characters are rendered in clean, rectilinear strokes characteristic of cast Joseon cash coinage. |
