| Obverse description | Round cast bronze cash coin featuring a central square perforation framed by a raised square border. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole: 常 (above), 寶 (right), 平 (below), and 通 (left), reading 通寶 (circulating treasure) horizontally and 常平 (ever-normal) vertically, together forming the legend 常平通寶 — the standard denomination inscription of Joseon Dynasty cash coinage. The flat, unadorned field displays the characteristic rough, granular surface typical of sand-cast Korean mun coinage of the late nineteenth century. |
