Additional information

The "Heaven Large Type" designation refers to the casting series code stamped on these coins by the Joseon government mint — a bureaucratic cataloging system that helps modern collectors distinguish among the dozens of nearly identical mun varieties produced across different furnaces and administrative offices. By 1881, the mun itself was effectively obsolete. Korea's monetary system was under mounting pressure from Japanese and Chinese commercial interests, and the government's own coin-casting infrastructure was fragmenting. The mun would be officially discontinued within a few years as part of forced modernization.
