Obverse description Round cast bronze cash coin centered on a raised-rim square perforation, characteristic of the Joseon Dynasty Sangpyong Tongbo series. The four Chinese characters of the coin's name are arranged in the traditional cross pattern around the central square hole: 常 (Sang) at the top, 通 (Tong) to the right, 寶 (Bo) at the bottom, and 平 (Pyong) to the left. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) in raised relief against a flat, unadorned field. The outer rim is broad and slightly irregular, consistent with the sand-cast production method employed at Joseon government mints.
