Obverse description Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square hole surrounded by a raised inner rim. The field bears the four-character Chinese legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo) arranged in cruciform fashion around the square perforation, reading top-bottom-right-left in the traditional manner. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) with moderate relief. An outer raised rim encircles the design, with a plain, slightly irregular field between the rims characteristic of Joseon cast coinage.
